Recruitment Tip
Now I am the first to admit that I am not perfect, but can I suggest that when you are applying for a role, your emails, and CV etc, must all be perfect. Simple mistakes may put your CV to the bottom of the pile - if not just straight in the bin. In fact one recruiter for a major global bank once said to me, "if the CV has a spelling mistake - I shred it!"
Common mistakes to be avoided:
- spelling mistakes
- no dates listed for roles performed
- no dates listed for university degrees and/or courses
- cover letter address to the wrong institution
- cover letter referring to one role while the role being applied for is different
- spelling the name of the recruiter/hiring manager incorrectly (by the way, my company is called NelsonPark Advisors - but my name is not Mr Nelson Park)
- if you don't know if the person you are writing to is a male or female, don't put Dear Sir/Madam, it looks lazy
Good luck with your job search
