Pakistani Professionals Wing Thrashes TCS In A Friendly Match
Event Date: Friday, February 25, 2011
Venue: beautiful Sevens ground, Dubai
A much awaited cricket encounter was held between PPW and TCS Courier on February 25, 2011 at the beautiful Sevens ground. Preparations for the match started a week earlier with enthusiastic PW members and their children gathering at Pakistan Association for a net practice session. Team selection and match arrangements were finalized under the supervision of PW Chairman Mr Munir Mahmood and Symposia Committee Leader Mr Abdul Qayyum.
On the day of the event PW team members arrived dressed in their smart green kit which was specially made for the event. TCS team also reached the ground with full force. Being the winners of last such encounter between these two teams (which was held in 2008) TCS was a clear favorite. The PW team was a good blend of youth (in the form of PW members’ children) and loads of experience (in the form of young at heart PW members). TCS team largely has the same members who had played against PW a couple of years back.
TCS won the toss and put PW into bat. PW openers Rehman and Adnan started the inning in great fashion hitting the TCS bowlers all over the ground. The waivered bowling of TCS did not help either as their bowlers gave away far too many extras. TCS started making inroads in the 3rd over when they trapped Rehman through a ball that kept low. But PW middle order played extremely well to register 128 runs in 15 overs.
TCS innings started with a flourish specially with Harris playing some great shots. But soon wickets started trembling from the other end and the run rate started to creep up. Harris managed the innings superbly and kept TCS in the hunt. But introduction of Nadeem in bowling created havoc for TCS team. Nadeem bowled his off-spin with a tight line and got two wickets in two balls to stop the run flow from TCS batsmen bats. He came back to claim three more wickets in three balls to break their back.
Harris top scored from TCS with 43 runs but still they fell short of target and after his departure none of the batsmen face PW’s good bowling.
The match ended with the awards distribution with the man of the match and the best bowler award going to Nadeem of PW while Harris of TCS claimed the award for the best batsman. PW captain Hamad Malik received the trophy from Mr Munir Mahmood and Mr Mazhar Khan, Vice President of TCS.
Concluding the awards ceremony Mr Munir Mahmood said, “I thank TCS for sponsoring our event and being such a great competitor. I hope that everyone enjoyed the match and we hope to make this a regular feature of PW events calendar.”
